America is a strange place in that people always look for and are given dietary rules. I'm sure you read the recent NYT coverage on mercury in fish and the effects of calcium supplements in older women. People are looking for dietary rules that will save them. Maybe it's no salt. Or no fat. No carbs. No meat.

I'm currently reading Jeffrey Steingarten's "The Man Who Ate Everything" and it's amusing to see that his stories are still relevant today. His "Staying Alive" piece points out a big problem - in an industrialized society, we have forgotten how to eat.

Thanks for pointing out this book.
