Mmmmmm pig and beer. Not getting to you? How about five hours of all-you-can-eat BBQ pig (whole, ribs, and pulled pork), all-you-can-drink beer (six varieties of Brooklyn Brew), a gorgeous sunny day which had been forecast for rain, some non-meat sides (corn, slaw, bean salad, and potato salad) and live music, on the waterfront for $75 that goes to charity? See, sexy isn't it?
Had you joined me, Bear, Bubby, Downstairs, Wife, Thursday, and Pagan at the Brooklyn Brewery Pigfest you would have had all this and seen awesome things like:
Separately BBQ'd ribs, pulled pork and chicken, ready for the approaching masses.
A pig in a blanket, resting before the party started.
A pig that was split up its belly and roasted.
That pigs sister, split down both belly and back and roasted, much darker without the trapped fat to dissipate the heat.
I called her Lunch.
400 pounds of slow roasted swine, four peppers, four oranges, and four onions, and a couple of pineapples.
getting a rib.
you can read.
The first run, Weiss beer, a mixed plate of pork.
Look at that.
The downy beauty of a pork loin slow cooked for around 24 hours.
Sides for those who enjoy such non-pig things: 4 bean salad, bliss potato salad and slaw (with edamame, lest we forget we are in NYC).
There was an awesome moment in which they were out of plates and waiting for more. For those of us who are resourceful this was a great opportunity to upgrade our plates to a roasting pan.
The weather forecast for this day was 80% chance of rain, proving whoever actually controls the weather really loves people who love pig and beer enough to risk getting wet. To revel in the joy of being obviously chosen by some higher power, the only fitting celebration ensued: a rousing game of flip cup.
That looked awesome. How psyched are you for this weekend's culinary festival?
I don't think i could ever afford some of that food otherwise.
